Prevention of Sinusitis

For those who are susceptible to sinusitis, sinus disease, sinus infection, sinus allergy the following prevention guidelines are highly recommended. My suggestions prevent mucus membrane of swelling and producing excessive mucus.

MOISTURIZE the AIR:
Run a humidifier with saline solution in your bedroom at night to keep your nasal and sinus passages from drying out. Clean the humidifier once a week so that mildew and fungi can't proliferate.

CHANGE heater, air conditioner FILTERS at home and in your car REGULARLY!

STAY AWAY from SMOKE-filled rooms:
Cigarette smoke dries out nasal passages and bacteria get trapped in the sinuses causing sinus infection.

AVOID swimming in a CHLORINATED POOL and never DIVE:
Chlorine irritates the lining of the nose and sinuses. Diving forces water from nasal passages up into sinuses. Both promote sinus problem.

CUT DOWN on your consumption of ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: Alcohol causes swelling of nasal and sinus membranes which may lead to sinus congestion.

DO NOT eat ICE-CREAM and CUT OUT cow's MILK: consumption of ice-cream (which is loaded with artificial colorings, aromas etc.) is often followed by a sinusitis next day in certain people. Dairy products promote mucus formation. Some people tolerate goat's and sheep's milk products better.

BE AWARE, that some people get sinusitis and sinus infection from regular consumption of ORANGE JUICE.

DRINK plenty of WARM LIQUIDS: peppermint (Mentha piperita) or oregano (Origanum vulgare) tea, vegetable or chicken soup with a clove of chopped raw garlic.

EAT regularly a few cloves of finely diced GARLIC, freshly grated HORSERADISH, pungent spices like CAYENNE pepper or CHILI PEPPERS, MUSTARD or GINGER and drink lot of PINEAPPLE JUICE.
