So, are you looking for good hangover cures and hangover remedies? Have you woken up with a hammering headache and a stomach rolling around like an old trainer in a washing machine?

The first piece of advice is, if you feel like being sick, do so. One of the best hangover remedies is vomiting. Vomiting is the body's healthy way of ridding itself of toxins. Vomiting is a useful reaction of your system, so feel free to rid yourself from the poisonous amount of alcohol. This is the first step of hangover cures.

Hangover Symptoms

You had too much drinks last night and you have woken up with a wicked hangover. What are hangover symptoms exactly?

What is the cause of hangover symptoms? What is going on in your system?

The alcohol in your body has left you dehydrated and depleted of minerals. This is the main cause of your thirst.

It has also caused the blood vessels to relax especially in your head, dilateted blood vessels accounts for the headache. Finally, alcohol makes your blood abnormally acidic (a condition called acidosis), which causes nausea and sweating.

All the hangover cures try to rehydrate your body (i.e. to reinstate water), and supply with the lost potassium and magnesium ions, and get in balance the blood pH again.

Share Your Experiences from Tyra (Halifax): "Everyone knows that a night at a wedding reception usually results in the next day spent in bed. However; some people don't get that required time to recooperate. I can't say that I have anything for the pain of a hangover headache because I don't usually experience those, BUT I do have the best stomach cure! When you wake up, drink a lot of water...this will usually make you vomit... not the greatest feeling but you'll thank yourself later. I wouldn't recommend slamming back a cheeseburger or some greasy bacon like a lot of people claim to be the cure but maybe start off with a soda cracker so you can get your stomach ready to eat. Then - the cure for hangovers! Sauerkraut and mashed potatoes... the potatoes are bland enough to lighten the taste of the sauerkraut for people that don't enjoy it as well as I do, and I recommend Tancook Sauerkraut or any carton of it instead of a jar of it...the cartons are better because it's actually the real stuff and its fresh so the pickled taste isn't as strong. So mix it all together, (you can use instant mashed) because no one with hangovers has the stomach strength to stand there and peel boil and mash potatoes. A rather big bowl of that with a little butter and salt and you should be ready to face the day without a barf bucket!"

Cures for Hangovers with Oil Pulling

Try in the morning after heavy drinking oil pulling on an empty stomach. It is amazing!

What you should NOT do:

  • Do not take painkillers for your headache. They can irritate your stomach and harm your liver which are already overstressed by alcohol.

  • Do not drink much coffee! Like alcohol, caffeine is a diuretic, and if you drink too much you will become even more dehydrated.

  • Do not have another alcoholic drink for your hangovers. You will only postpone and prolong your misery. Alcohol is definitely the worst hangover remedy at all.
